Signature Assignment
Learning outcomes option 2:
Quite complex actually, well in my opinion. The human body requires many different nutritional needs, from vitamins, to nutrients, to what foods help and hurt your body. It appears that nutrition is such a large factor in maintaining proper health that many people have really no idea how important it is to understand it all. Your body processes foods and every part of the digestive system has a role in distributing nutrients that provide energy, keeping the organs working properly and digesting your foods correctly so that you keep what you need and rid of what you don’t. What was hard for me is that all our bodies are different and produce or don’t produce what it should. There are many disorders associated with this process such as diabetes, disorders of the systems and issues that surround and impact your health. You know that old saying “you are what you eat” as a kid I would shrug at that. As an adult I realize just how true that is.Society runs so fast these days. It impacts what we eat, when we eat it and how much of it we eat. All can be unhealthy factors in our nutrition.
Answer the following reflection prompts: (this is the same for both options)
It did help me understand this class better when we talked about measurements and other elements of nutrition and how they process through our systems.
2. Reflect on how you thought about nutrition before you took this course and how you think about it now that the course is over.
I really did not take nutrition seriously before this class. I did not have time, and I did not think it had much to do with how I feel. But as I went through this course, I realized that I have so many things I need to change about the way in which I live my life. That my internal struggles are more than likely a huge result of how I eat. I have made some changes, while small, they are some. I will always remember some of the gross things I learned in this class.
In this class I learned just how unhealthy I am. I have always understood this and used to eat a lot better. I fall into the typical stress of life and eating takes a back seat. I think the biggest reason for that is I have to prioritize so many things and often run around unorganized. I could easily change this, but for some reason I don’t. This class helped me understand the effects food has on my system. How nutrients and vitamins play such a huge role in how I feel and how my body works. I do often think about the assignment with the movie I watched that shows just how horrible fast food is and I will tell you that has changed how I feel about just grabbing food on my way home so if anything that is a plus. I just tell myself “no, go home and cook something” and generally that is a much healthier option. I recently renewed my Hello Fresh and feel that allows me organized and easy dinners and lunches for work.
This class was a lot of terminology that might not have stuck with me due to my ADHD but I think a lot of the important things that pertain to my life do. I have GI and Digestive issues that really change how I can eat but if I just spend a little more time working on it, I think I can make the next chapter of my life healthier.
